NORCET 13 Eligibility Criteria
Before starting your application, make sure you understand the educational qualification, nursing registration, age limit and work experience requirements.
The conditions below are based on NORCET-11. The official NORCET 13 advertisement will determine the eligibility requirements for the new recruitment cycle.
1. Educational qualification
Under the NORCET-11 notification, candidates could qualify through either of the following routes.
Route 1: B.Sc. Nursing qualification
Candidates needed to hold one of these qualifications:
- B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing or B.Sc. Nursing from a recognised institute or university.
- B.Sc. (Post-Certificate) or Post-Basic B.Sc. Nursing from a recognised institute or university.
Candidates were also required to be registered as Nurses and Midwives with the State Nursing Council or Indian Nursing Council, as applicable.
Route 2: GNM diploma
Candidates applying through the GNM route needed to fulfil the following conditions:
- Hold a Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) from a recognised institute, board or council.
- Be registered as a Nurse and Midwife with the State Nursing Council or Indian Nursing Council.
- Have two years of experience in a hospital with at least 50 beds, subject to the notification’s conditions.
For the GNM route, the NORCET-11 notification specified that the required experience had to be obtained after completion of the relevant course or residency period, declaration of results and nursing registration.
Which qualification is right for you? Your eligibility depends on your qualification, registration status and, where required, work experience. Read the relevant notification carefully before applying.
2. Age limit
For AIIMS recruitment under NORCET-11, the prescribed age range was 18 to 30 years, subject to applicable relaxations and the recruitment rules of the participating institution.
The closing date of online registration was used as the crucial date for determining age under that notification.
The age relaxations listed in NORCET-11 included:
| Category | Age relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC/ST | 5 years |
| OBC | 3 years |
| Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) | 10 years |
| PwBD + OBC | 13 years |
| PwBD + SC/ST | 15 years |
| Eligible Ex-Servicemen and commissioned officers | As prescribed in the notification |
| Eligible Central Government civilian employees | Subject to specified service conditions |
Additional conditions applied to certain categories, including a maximum age of 56 years for the PwBD categories listed in the NORCET-11 notification.
These limits should not automatically be assumed to apply to NORCET 13. Candidates should verify the applicable age limit, relaxation rules and crucial date in the new advertisement.
NORCET 13 Application Fee
The application fee is another important detail to check before submitting your form.
NORCET-11 prescribed the following fees:
| Category | Fee under NORCET-11 |
|---|---|
| General/OBC | ₹3,000 |
| SC/ST/EWS | ₹2,400 |
| Persons with Disabilities | Exempted |
The NORCET-11 notification allowed online payment through debit card, credit card or net banking. It also provided for a refund to eligible SC/ST candidates who appeared in the examination, subject to verification of their category certificate.
These amounts and refund conditions relate to NORCET-11 only. Please check the NORCET 13 notification for the applicable fee, exemptions and refund policy.
NORCET 13 Selection Process
Understanding the selection process early can help you prepare with a clear goal in mind.
The NORCET-11 recruitment scheme included two computer-based examination stages, followed by the relevant document verification and institute-allocation process.
Stage I: NORCET Preliminary
Stage I is the initial examination stage. Under the NORCET-11 scheme, it was used as a qualifying examination to shortlist eligible candidates for Stage II.
Qualifying Stage I did not, by itself, determine the final merit rank.
Stage II: NORCET Main
Stage II was the main examination used to prepare the merit list under NORCET-11. Candidates needed to meet the applicable qualifying requirements and other eligibility conditions.
Document verification and institute allocation
Candidates who qualify may be required to present their original certificates for verification by the participating institution.
Allocation depends on the applicable recruitment rules and factors such as merit, eligibility, candidate preferences and available vacancies.
The final selection process for NORCET 13 must be confirmed from its official notification.
NORCET Exam Pattern
A good preparation strategy begins with understanding the examination structure, time limits and marking scheme.
The following details are taken from the NORCET-11 notification and should be used as a reference until the NORCET 13 pattern is officially confirmed.
Stage-I: NORCET Preliminary exam pattern
| Particulars | Details under NORCET-11 |
|---|---|
| Examination mode | Computer-Based Test |
| Duration | 90 minutes |
| Total questions | 100 MCQs |
| Total marks | 100 |
| General Knowledge and Aptitude | 20 questions |
| Nursing subjects | 80 questions |
| Negative marking | One-third mark for each incorrect answer |
| Number of sections | 5 |
| Time per section | 18 minutes |
| Purpose | Qualifying examination |
Under the NORCET-11 pattern, each section contained 20 questions and had a separate 18-minute time limit. When the allotted time ended, the next section became active, and candidates could not return to a previous section.
This means that practising within a time limit can be just as important as knowing the subject matter.
Stage-II: NORCET Main exam pattern
| Particulars | Details under NORCET-11 |
|---|---|
| Examination mode | Computer-Based Test |
| Duration | 180 minutes |
| Total questions | 160 MCQs |
| Total marks | 160 |
| Question focus | Nursing subjects and case-scenario-based questions |
| Negative marking | One-third mark for each incorrect answer |
| Number of sections | 4 |
| Questions per section | 40 |
| Time per section | 45 minutes |
| Purpose | Main examination for merit preparation |
In NORCET-11, each section had a fixed time limit. Once that time ended, candidates moved to the next section and could not return to the previous one.
For NORCET 13 preparation, practise nursing concepts, clinical scenarios and time management. However, always check the new notification for any changes in the examination structure.
NORCET Qualifying Criteria
The NORCET-11 notification prescribed different qualifying standards for Stage I and Stage II.
Stage-I qualifying percentile
| Category | Qualifying percentile under NORCET-11 |
|---|---|
| UR/EWS | 50th percentile |
| OBC | 45th percentile |
| SC/ST | 40th percentile |
| UR/EWS – PwBD | 45th percentile |
| OBC – PwBD | 40th percentile |
| SC/ST – PwBD | 35th percentile |
A percentile is not the same as a percentage. The Stage-I qualifying requirements and shortlisting rules must be read together with the examination scheme.
Stage-II qualifying percentage
| Category | Qualifying percentage under NORCET-11 |
|---|---|
| UR/EWS | 50% |
| OBC | 45% |
| SC/ST | 40% |
| UR/EWS – PwBD | 45% |
| OBC – PwBD | 40% |
| SC/ST – PwBD | 35% |
These qualifying standards are provided for reference and are not confirmed NORCET 13 criteria. Candidates should use the official NORCET 13 notification for the applicable standards.
NORCET 13 Salary and Pay Scale
One of the reasons candidates aim for a Nursing Officer position is the opportunity to build a stable career in the healthcare sector.
According to the NORCET-11 notification, Nursing Officer posts were advertised at Pay Level 7 of the Pay Matrix, with the pre-revised pay band of ₹9,300–₹34,800 and Grade Pay of ₹4,600.
The applicable allowances and service conditions were governed by the terms specified in the recruitment notice and relevant rules.
The exact salary, allowances and other benefits for NORCET 13 should be confirmed from the official advertisement. The final amount received each month may depend on the applicable rules, posting location and deductions.
NORCET 13 Syllabus and Preparation Guidance
Preparing for NORCET requires a strong understanding of nursing subjects and the ability to apply that knowledge to examination questions.
The NORCET-11 notification stated that the syllabus would be in accordance with the educational qualification and experience specified in the eligibility section.
For preparation, candidates can focus on:
- Core nursing subjects covered in their qualifying course.
- Nursing knowledge and clinical concepts.
- Case-scenario-based questions that test clinical judgement.
- General Knowledge and Aptitude for the Stage-I pattern used in NORCET-11.
- Timed practice to improve speed and accuracy.
- Mock tests and revision of topics that need more attention.
Create a realistic study timetable and review your progress regularly. Rather than trying to cover everything at once, divide your preparation into manageable topics and revise them consistently.
The official NORCET 13 notification should be checked for any updated syllabus or examination instructions.
