Staff Nurse Eligibility

Educational Qualification

A candidate must satisfy either of the following educational routes:

Option 1 – GNM

  • Intermediate / 10+2 or equivalent
  • Must have passed the examination conducted by the Nursing Council
  • Must have completed a three-year course in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM)

OR

Option 2 – B.Sc Nursing

  • B.Sc. Nursing

These are the educational qualifications explicitly mentioned in the IITH notification.

Experience Requirement

In addition to the educational qualification, the candidate must have:

Minimum 3 years of post-qualification experience in a hospital recognized by the Central/State Nursing Council.

This is an important distinction: the notification lists the 3 years of post-qualification experience as an essential qualification, rather than merely desirable experience.

Desirable Experience

IITH specifically mentions experience in the following areas as desirable:

  • Casualty
  • Medical Ward
  • Surgical Ward
  • ICU

Therefore, candidates with relevant hospital experience in these areas may have an advantage during shortlisting, particularly because the Institute reserves the right to restrict the number of candidates called for selection based on qualifications and relevance/level of experience.

Age Limit

The upper age limit for the Staff Nurse post is:

35 years

The applicable cut-off date for determining age, qualification and post-qualification experience is 17 September 2026, which is the last date for submission of the online application.

The notification also states that relaxation in the upper age limit is applicable in cases of horizontal reservation as per Government of India rules.

Salary

The Staff Nurse will receive:

₹35,000 per month

This is described as consolidated remuneration, rather than a regular pay-scale appointment. Applicable statutory deductions will be made from the monthly remuneration.

Nature of Appointment

The Staff Nurse position is purely contractual and temporary.

The initial appointment period is:

11 months

The Institute may extend the engagement if:

  • The selected candidate’s performance is satisfactory, and
  • The Institute continues to require the services.

The contract can be terminated by either side with one month’s notice. Importantly, the contractual appointment does not create a right or claim to regular employment at IIT Hyderabad.

Staff Nurse Working Hours

The notification specifies:

  • 8 hours per day
  • 6 days per week
  • Shift duties may be included depending on the Institute’s requirements.

The Staff Nurse may also be required to work on weekends and holidays when informed by the Head of Department, Faculty-in-Charge or Chairperson.

So candidates should be prepared for shift-based hospital duties and weekend/holiday duties.

Selection Process

The advertised mode of selection is:

Written Test / Skill Test / Interview

The notification does not provide a detailed Staff Nurse examination syllabus or marks distribution in the supplied document. Therefore, it would not be appropriate to assume a particular written-test pattern from this notification.

The Institute reserves the right to decide the screening and testing method for shortlisting and selection.

Selection venue

IIT Hyderabad, Kandi, Sangareddy, Telangana.

No TA/DA will be paid for attending the selection process.

Experience Certificate – Very Important

Candidates should pay particular attention to the experience certificate.

IITH says the experience certificate should clearly state:

  • Your designation
  • Period of service
  • Nature of work/assignments
  • Pay

The certificate should:

  • Be issued on the organization’s letterhead
  • Include the date of issue
  • Mention the name and designation of the issuing authority
  • Have the authority’s signature and stamp

The Institute specifically says that pay slips, office orders, appointment orders or other similar documents will not be considered as proof of experience.

Also, only experience obtained after the minimum qualifying degree/course will be considered, and part-time employment experience will not be considered.

Documents to Keep Ready

For the online application, candidates should prepare scanned copies of relevant documents.

The application instructions require educational and employment/experience documents to be uploaded as PDF files, with a maximum size of 1 MB per document.

Depending on the candidate’s circumstances, documents can include:

  • 10th certificate/mark sheet
  • 10+2 certificate
  • GNM certificate or B.Sc Nursing certificate
  • Nursing Council-related certificate/registration documents as applicable
  • Experience certificates
  • Category certificate, if applicable
  • Date-of-birth proof
  • PwBD certificate, if applicable
  • Ex-servicemen certificate, if applicable
  • Other relevant certificates

The notification requires all relevant certificates to be uploaded according to the application instructions.
