1. What is PPBNET-2026?

PPBNET-2026 means Punjab Post Basic Nursing Entrance Test 2026.

It is the entrance examination conducted by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot for admission to the Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing Course in nursing colleges affiliated with the university in Punjab.

BFUHS states that it has 172 affiliated colleges, including 125 Nursing colleges, and that PPBNET-2026 is being conducted to select candidates for Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing admissions for the 2026 session.

The prospectus is divided into:

Part I: Application process, entrance test, OMR instructions, result, merit and counselling.
Part II: Punjab Government admission rules, eligibility, reservations, fees and related notifications.
Annexures: Certificates, category documents, residence documents and college information.

2. Important dates

The dates and application fees are given in the prospectus’ Important Dates section.

⚠️ Important date discrepancy in the prospectus

There is an internal inconsistency that you should be aware of.

The Important Dates table says the entrance test is 27 June 2026, while the detailed examination section on page 19 says 28.06.2026 and even labels it “Saturday.”

Therefore, I would not independently choose between these dates. The prospectus itself says that subsequent notifications/changes will be published by BFUHS, so the university’s latest official notice/admit card should be treated as controlling.

3. Eligibility — who can apply?

The detailed eligibility rules are based on the Punjab Government notification reproduced in Part II of the prospectus.

The prospectus says the candidate must:

A. Have GNM qualification

The candidate must have obtained a General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) certificate from an institution recognized by the relevant nursing authorities.

The prospectus specifically requires the GNM qualification from an institution recognized by the Punjab Nurses Registration Council / Indian Nursing Council and situated in Punjab, subject to specified exemptions.

B. Be a Registered Nurse/Midwife

The government notification states that the candidate for Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing must be a Registered Nurse/Midwife (RN/RM) with a Nursing Council of a State.

C. Medical fitness

The candidate must be medically fit.

D. Minimum entrance-test marks

The notification specifies that a candidate must obtain at least:

35% in the entrance test generally.
30% for SC/BC candidates.

For candidates with equal entrance-test marks, the prospectus provides tie-breaking criteria.

E. Punjab residence

The government notification generally requires the candidate to be a bona fide resident of Punjab, although the notification also specifies several categories/exemptions, such as:

Wards of defence personnel posted in Punjab
NRI candidates
Minority-community candidates competing for minority quota
Certain children/wards of Central Government employees
J&K migrant candidates under the specified quota

The exact exemption requirements are important because merely falling into one of these broad descriptions does not automatically establish eligibility.

4. Entrance-test pattern

The examination is an objective-type MCQ test.

The prospectus says:

One paper
Subject: General Nursing and Midwifery
Language: English
Objective-type questions
Four alternatives: A, B, C and D
Only one is correct/most appropriate
Answers are marked on an OMR response sheet.

What the prospectus does NOT clearly establish

I would not state a number of questions, total marks, or detailed subject-wise weightage as fact from this document unless we locate an explicit section giving those figures. The prospectus clearly says the paper covers General Nursing and Midwifery, but the material I reviewed does not provide a reliable subject-wise marks table.

So, for preparation purposes, you should treat the GNM curriculum as the core examination area, rather than relying on an externally assumed question distribution.

5. OMR and negative marking — very important

This is one of the most important parts of the prospectus.

Each question has:

A | B | C | D | E

A–D = answer choices
E = special security option for an unattempted question

Correct answer

Darken the appropriate A/B/C/D oval completely using a black fine-tip ball pen.

Wrong answer

There is no negative marking for an incorrect answer.

Unattempted question

If you don’t know the answer, you should darken E.

If you leave all five ovals blank, the prospectus says the question will attract a deduction of ¼ mark of the total marks of that question.

The prospectus repeats this warning in its negative-marking section.

Practical implication

Do not leave an unanswered question completely blank.

If you decide not to attempt it, mark E.

6. OMR marking rules

You must use BLACK FINE TIP BALL PEN.

Important rules include:

Do not mark more than one option.
Multiple darkened options are treated as wrong.
The oval should be completely darkened.
Light/faint marking may not be read by the optical scanner.
Do not fold or damage the OMR sheet.
Do not make stray marks.
Do not write rough work on the OMR sheet.
Rough work is permitted on the question booklet/margins.

The prospectus even provides a sample OMR sheet on page 18, showing 200 numbered answer positions and A–E choices. This is useful for understanding how the actual response sheet is structured, although the document text itself does not explicitly establish a 200-question exam.

7. Examination-centre rules

According to the detailed test instructions:

Reporting

Candidates must report by 8:00 AM for biometric verification.

Late entry

Candidates are not allowed through the main gate after 10:30 AM.

Required documents

You must carry:

Admit Card
One original valid government-issued photo ID, such as:
- Aadhaar
- PAN
- Driving Licence
- Voter ID
- Passport

Photocopies, even attested copies, or an ID shown only on a mobile phone are not accepted as valid identification according to the prospectus.

Prohibited items

The prospectus prohibits items including:

Electronic watches with calculator facilities
Pagers
Electronic devices
Printed/written material
Notes/books
Food/snacks inside the examination room

Transparent drinking water is permitted.

8. Application process

The application is online only.

The prospectus specifically says candidates should apply themselves through the BFUHS website and should not approach individual nursing colleges to apply.

Basic process

Step 1: Read prospectus and check eligibility.

Step 2: Register online.

Step 3: Complete the application form.

Step 4: Upload required documents.

Step 5: Upload photograph/signature.

Step 6: Pay the application/counselling fee through the online payment gateway.

Step 7: Save registration/login details.

Step 8: Download/retain the application form and payment proof.

The prospectus states that only one application should be submitted. Multiple applications can lead to rejection.

9. Application fee

For the general category:

₹3,000 + 18% GST + ₹1,000 counselling fee = ₹4,540

For SC candidates:

₹1,500 + 18% GST + ₹1,000 counselling fee = ₹2,770.

The fee is paid through the university’s online payment gateway.

The prospectus says the application fee is not refundable/adjustable once deposited.

10. Documents and application precautions

The candidate is advised to retain:

At least 3 printouts of the submitted application form
Fee-payment proof
Three identical recent colour photographs
Other supporting certificates/documents.

The photograph must be:

Recent
Taken after 01-01-2026
Passport-size
Colour
White background

The prospectus says photographs with caps/goggles are not acceptable, although spectacles are permitted when regularly used.

Bank details

The application also requires accurate bank-account information and upload of a cancelled cheque/passbook copy for refund-related purposes.

The university specifically places responsibility on the candidate for incorrect bank information.

Registration details

After successful application, the university issues a Unique Registration ID/Login ID and password through the registered mobile number/email.

Keep these confidential.

11. Application correction

The prospectus is strict about corrections.

The correction/change facility is available only up to:

22 June 2026, 5:00 PM

After that, no request for change is entertained according to the prospectus.

In particular, candidates should carefully check:

The prospectus provides numerous category codes.

The prospectus states that if a candidate does not claim an applicable category in the application, the candidate may be treated under Open Merit.

Very important

You should select your category carefully at the application stage. The prospectus says category changes are not allowed after the specified correction deadline.

13. Reservation

The Punjab Government notification reproduced in the prospectus provides reservation provisions.

For Government Nursing Colleges, the notification includes categories such as:

SC — 25%
Backward Classes — 10%
Backward Area/Border Area — 2% combined
Physically Disabled — 5%
Sports — 1%
Certain terrorist-affected categories — 1%
Defence personnel wards — 1%
Punjab Police/Armed Police/Home Guards/Para-Military categories — 1%
Children/grandchildren of freedom fighters — 1%

The actual applicability and inter-se preference depend on the government notification and category documentation.

14. Minimum qualifying marks

The notification states:

35% minimum in entrance test for general eligibility.
30% for SC/BC candidates.

However, qualifying does not guarantee a seat.

Admission is based on merit, eligibility, category/quota and available seats.

15. Tie-breaking rules

If two candidates have equal entrance-test marks, the notification provides further inter-se merit criteria.

The prospectus states the order includes:

Higher percentage of aggregate marks calculated up to 3 decimal places in GNM.
Higher percentage of marks in the specified GNM component, also calculated up to 3 decimal places.
Older candidate in age.

The detailed notification pages should therefore be used when determining a specific tie.

16. Result and merit list

The OMR sheets are evaluated using an OMR machine.

The result is to be declared:

Roll-number-wise
Category-wise

The prospectus says the PPBNET ranking itself is intended to show relative position and that admission is ultimately governed by the applicable government notification and eligibility conditions.

17. Counselling process

This is extremely important because passing PPBNET does not automatically give you a college.

BFUHS will conduct online counselling.

The prospectus explicitly advises candidates to fill their preferences carefully because allocation is based on merit/eligibility and the preferences submitted.

18. What happens if you don’t join?

If an allotted candidate:

Does not report within the prescribed period,
Does not pay required fees,
Or is found ineligible,

the allotted seat can be cancelled automatically, and the seat can be made available in a subsequent counselling round.

19. Upgradation/change of college

If you want to upgrade or change your college/category:

Participate in the subsequent counselling round.
Submit fresh preferences.
First-round choices are not automatically carried forward.

If you are upgraded, you generally don’t pay tuition fee again; you pay only the difference in fee, if applicable.

Important second-round point

The prospectus says that in the second counselling round, candidates can enter choices even if a particular seat is not currently displayed in the vacancy list, because seats can become available through shifting/conversion.

Therefore, the prospectus advises candidates to submit preferences according to their actual choice rather than restricting themselves only to the vacancies currently displayed.

20. Colleges and seats

A very important point: the 2026 seat/intake list was not finalized in the prospectus.

The prospectus says that the Indian Nursing Council, PNRC and Punjab Government had not yet uploaded the final list of Nursing Colleges running Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing for 2026.

Therefore, the final college list and intake will be published on the BFUHS website at the time of online counselling.

One special reserved seat

There is one special provision:

One Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing seat at State Institute of Nursing & Paramedical Sciences, Badal, District Muktsar Sahib is reserved for residents of Village Badal.

If it is not filled by a Village Badal resident, it goes to Open Quota.

21. Colleges provisionally listed for girls only

The final 2026 list was not yet available, but the prospectus gives a provisional list of affiliated nursing colleges permitted to admit only girls:

Important: This is expressly described as a provisional list, not the final 2026 seat list.

22. Tuition fees

The prospectus contains an important warning: the fee information in the relevant section is provisional and the 2026 Punjab Government notification had not yet been issued when the prospectus was prepared.

The prospectus gives the following session-2025 fee structure:

The document expressly says that the 2026 fee may change and the eventual Punjab Government notification/corrigendum will apply.

So do not treat ₹51,000 or ₹63,800 as the guaranteed 2026 final fee.

23. Other university charges

The prospectus mentions:

HSLIBNET

The fee section on page 39 states a one-time HSLIBNET fee of ₹3,000 for B.Sc. Nursing students.

This should be distinguished from the earlier general instruction on page 11, which mentions ₹1,500 for Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing. Because the prospectus contains this discrepancy, I would verify the applicable amount at admission rather than assume either figure is final.

24. Hostel

The prospectus states that hostel is not mandatory for students whose permanent residence is within a 10 km radius of the college.

The government notification also provides hostel-related charges for private institutions, including figures for non-air-conditioned and special rooms, security advance and mess arrangements. These should be treated separately from tuition fees.

25. NRI admission

NRI candidates have a separate procedure.

The prospectus states:

NRI candidates need an eligibility/equivalency certificate from BFUHS.
They apply using the prescribed NRI application procedure.
Relevant documents can include foreign passport, Green Card, Permanent Resident Card, proof of foreign-country residency or OCI/PIO card.

NRI seat allocation

The notification provides:

15% seats in private institutes
7.5% seats in Government/University institutes

for NRI candidates under the specified policy.

NRI fee

The prospectus states:

US$15,000 total

or:

First installment: US$8,000 at admission
Second installment: US$7,000 after one year

A bank guarantee/surety bond is required for the remaining amount when installment payment is chosen.

NRI entrance test

The Important Dates section states that NRI and Foreign National candidates are not required to appear in the entrance test, subject to the prescribed eligibility/application procedure.

26. Nursing Registration Council requirement

A 2023 Punjab Government corrigendum reproduced in the prospectus states that students being admitted from the 2023–24 batch onward have to register with the Nursing Registration Council, Punjab.

This is therefore relevant to candidates entering the Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing programme under the current admission framework.

27. Original documents

An important protection for students is that the prospectus cites Punjab Government instructions stating that colleges cannot retain the original documents of admitted candidates.

If a candidate is upgraded/transferred to another college, the concerned college is expected to relieve the candidate with the original documents so the candidate can join the newly allotted institution.

28. Scholarship

The prospectus states that eligible SC candidates may receive Post-Matric Scholarship under the Punjab Government scheme, subject to the applicable conditions.

Candidates are responsible for completing the scholarship procedure and submitting the required documentation/Freeship Card within the required time.

29. Ragging

The prospectus clearly states that ragging is prohibited in all forms.

If a ragging incident is reported, the concerned student is given an opportunity to explain; if the explanation is unsatisfactory, the authority may expel the student.

30. Unfair means in the examination

The rules are very strict.

Unfair means include, among other things:

Carrying prohibited notes/material
Impersonation
Helping another candidate
Receiving assistance
Communicating with another candidate
Taking away the OMR sheet
Smuggling question paper/material out
Threatening examination officials
Manipulating/fabricating admit cards or other documents
Fabricated photograph
Forceful/malicious entry

The prospectus states that candidates found using unfair means can be permanently debarred and may also face criminal or other action.

31. Admission is not guaranteed just because you qualify

This is perhaps the most important overall point.

There are several separate stages:

Eligibility → PPBNET → qualifying marks → merit → category/quota → college preference → seat availability → document verification → fee payment → joining

The prospectus specifically says that merely appearing in PPBNET does not entitle a candidate to admission. Seat allotment remains provisional until eligibility and original documents are verified.

If you are a candidate, I would highlight these 10 points:

Check GNM + RN/RM eligibility first.
Check Punjab residence/category requirements.
Apply only through BFUHS online system.
Submit only one application.
Check your category carefully before the correction deadline.
Keep your registration ID/password safe.
For the exam, carry Admit Card + original government photo ID.
Use black fine-tip ball pen for OMR.
If you don’t know an answer, mark E rather than leaving all five ovals blank.
During counselling, fill college preferences carefully because allocation is based on merit + eligibility + preferences.
