Complete Process for Indian Nurses to work in the UK

1. Be a fully qualified nurse

Only a qualified nurse having a degree with six months of experience can apply for a work visa in the UK.

2. Clear English Language Skills

To work in the UK as a Nurse you must speak, read and write well in English. You must clear any of these skill tests.

  1. IELTS (International English Language Testing System). If you have completed an IELTS examination, you must provide an IELTS certificate that confirms: an overall score of at least 7 at least 6.5 in the writing section and at least 7 in the reading, listening, and speaking sections.
  2. OET (Occupational English Test) If you have completed an OET examination, you must provide a certificate that confirms: at least a B grade in listening reading and speaking and at least C+ in writing.  

3. Clear Interview

After clearing the English skill test, you will be called for an Online Interview with a hiring agency. This is a very important part as they will try to see whether you are a perfect fit for Nursing Job in the UK.

4. Clear CBT

All nurses in the UK must be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council, UK. This process involves a CBT exam of 120 MCQs. You need to clear this exam in 4 Hrs.

5. Document Submission

After clearing CBT you need to submit your documents to NMC. This process may take up to 60 days. If NMC finds everything OKAY they will issue a Decision Letter.

6. Submit your personal documents to the NHS Trust

Throughout the process, you will be asked to submit documents to NMC and to NHS trust. This is a must process to check whether you are fit for the job or not. They may ask you for NHS Application Form, Police Verification Certificate, Address Proof Document, Educational Documents, etc.

7. Apply for a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS)

To get Work Visa for Nursing Job in the UK you must have a Certificate of Sponsorship(COS). our NHS Trust acts as your sponsor and will apply for this on your behalf. Your COS will last 3 years, after which you can be re-sponsored. Following 5 years in the UK, you can apply for permanent residency. 

8. Apply For Tier-2 Visa

Indian nurses can apply for Tire-2  Visa. Depending on the NHS Trust you are joining, the cost or part of the cost of your Visa may be covered.

9. Book Your Flight to the UK

This is the time to book your flight to the UK and start working as a nurse. Your NHS trust will help you with accommodation and other work.

10. Pass the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)

This is the last but most important test to pass. You will get a total of 3 chances to clear OSCE. If you fail in OSCE you will be sent back to your country. So start preparing for this exam as soon as possible.
