5. B.Sc. Nursing Post-Basic 2026 Syllabus
This is one of the most important parts for preparation.
The prospectus specifically states that the syllabus will be at the Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) standard.
Subject-wise distribution
| Subject | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Scientific Principles Applied in Nursing Practice & Trends in Nursing | 10 | 10 |
| Medical-Surgical Nursing including Anatomy & Physiology | 20 | 20 |
| Child Health Nursing | 15 | 15 |
| Community Health Nursing including Nutrition | 15 | 15 |
| Obstetric Nursing & Midwifery | 15 | 15 |
| Mental Health Nursing | 15 | 15 |
| General Knowledge | 10 | 10 |
| Total | 100 | 100 |
Preparation priority for KNA students
Based purely on the weightage, I would structure preparation as:
Highest priority
- Medical-Surgical Nursing – 20%
- Child Health Nursing – 15%
- Community Health Nursing + Nutrition – 15%
- Obstetric Nursing & Midwifery – 15%
- Mental Health Nursing – 15%
Then
6. Scientific Principles/Practice & Trends – 10%
7. General Knowledge – 10%
6. Minimum Qualifying Percentile
For B.Sc. Nursing (Post-Basic):
| Category | Minimum qualifying percentile |
|---|---|
| General | 50th percentile |
| SC/ST/OBC | 45th percentile |
| PwBD | 45th percentile |
The prospectus describes this as the qualifying criterion in the theory/entrance examination.
Important distinction
Qualifying percentile ≠ guaranteed admission.
Candidates are selected strictly according to merit/rank, so merely achieving 50th percentile does not mean that a General-category candidate will get a seat.
7. Merit & Tie-Breaking
The overall rank is based on percentile score, with a higher percentile receiving a better rank.
If two or more candidates obtain the same percentile, the tie is resolved as follows:
First
Candidate who took more attempts to pass the qualifying examination (10+2/GNM) is ranked lower.
Second
If attempts are equal, the candidate with higher marks in the qualifying examination gets the higher rank.
Third
If both attempts and marks are equal, the older candidate gets the higher rank.
This is particularly important for students because GNM attempts and GNM marks can matter in a tie situation.
8. Document Verification & Counselling
Candidates are called for physical document verification and counselling at PGIMER, Chandigarh according to merit.
The prospectus states that the number of candidates called for interview/document verification may be three times the number of seats in each category, subject to the institute’s decision.
Very important
Candidates must bring original documents.
DigiLocker documents will not be accepted for the document-verification process.
The candidate must attend the document verification/counselling personally.
9. Documents Required
For B.Sc. Nursing (Post-Basic), candidates have to upload coloured scanned self-attested copies of the required certificates/documents.
Required documents
- 10th certificate – DOB & DMC
- 12th certificate/DMC
- GNM DMCs of all years
- 1st year
- 2nd year
- 3rd year
- GNM Diploma Certificate
- Nursing Registration Certificate
- SC/ST/OBC Certificate, wherever applicable
- PwBD Certificate, wherever applicable
- NOC, in case of in-service candidates

Admit cards are to be downloaded online and are not sent by post. They are expected to be available approximately 7 days before the examination.
For KNA’s preparation programme
The most useful way to structure the PGIMER Post-Basic course would be around the 7 official syllabus areas, with Medical-Surgical Nursing receiving the maximum dedicated preparation time (20%), followed by the four 15-mark subjects. This will make your KNA course directly aligned with the 2026 official notification rather than using a generic Post-Basic B.Sc. syllabus.
