PGIMER Chandigarh has issued a recruitment notice for 243 Nursing Officer posts on a regular, direct-recruitment basis. The official notice lists online registration from 10 September to 3 October 2026.

If you plan to apply, do not jump straight to the syllabus. First check your age, qualification, Nursing Council registration and, where required, hospital experience. A small mistake in the form or a missing document can cause problems during scrutiny even if you perform well in the examination.

This guide explains the PGIMER Nursing Officer Recruitment 2026 in clear language. Official facts are taken from the PGIMER notice. Preparation suggestions are identified separately so candidates can easily tell the difference.

PGIMER Nursing Officer Eligibility Criteria

The easiest way to understand the educational requirement is to divide it into two routes.

Route 1: B.Sc. Nursing Qualification

You may be eligible if you have one of the following qualifications from a recognized university or institute:

  • B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing;
  • Regular B.Sc. Nursing; or
  • Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing.

You must also be registered as a Nurse or Nurse and Midwife—RN or RN & RM—with a State Nursing Council. The notice does not prescribe separate hospital experience for candidates qualifying through this route.

Route 2: GNM Qualification

A GNM-qualified candidate may be eligible when all three conditions below are met:

  • A Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery from a recognized board or council;
  • Registration as a Nurse or Nurse and Midwife with a State Nursing Council; and
  • One year of experience in a hospital with at least 50 beds, gained after obtaining the required GNM qualification.

If you are applying through the GNM route, check your experience certificate carefully. It should clearly show the period of employment, nature of duties, issuing authority, reference number and issue date. PGIMER considers experience gained after the essential qualification.

Age Limit

The normal age limit is 18 to 35 years. Age and other eligibility conditions will be determined as of 3 October 2026, unless PGIMER issues an official change.

Upper-age relaxation stated in the notice
Category Relaxation
SC/ST 5 years
OBC 3 years
PwBD 10 years
PwBD with SC/ST 15 years
PwBD with OBC 13 years

Separate conditions apply to eligible government employees, permanent PGIMER employees and ex-servicemen. Reserved-category candidates competing for an unreserved vacancy should read the concession rules in the notification carefully.

PGIMER Nursing Officer Salary

The post is placed in Pay Level 7 of the 7th Central Pay Commission, with an official pay range of ₹44,900 to ₹1,42,400. Actual take-home pay can vary according to applicable allowances, deductions and government rules; it should not be presented as one guaranteed monthly amount.

PGIMER Nursing Officer Selection Process

There is no interview for this Group B Nursing Officer recruitment. The process consists of:

  1. Online Computer-Based Test;
  2. Category-wise shortlisting;
  3. Scrutiny of the submitted application and uploaded documents;
  4. Original document verification; and
  5. Final selection based on CBT merit, subject to eligibility.

Candidates who meet the minimum qualifying standard may be shortlisted at approximately three candidates per advertised vacancy, plus ties. Passing the CBT does not by itself create a right to appointment. The qualification, registration, experience and supporting documents must also be accepted by PGIMER.

PGIMER Nursing Officer Syllabus 2026

What the Official Notice Says

PGIMER has not provided a fixed chapter-by-chapter syllabus in this notice. It says the CBT will follow the prescribed educational qualification, professional course and relevant experience. Questions may therefore cover subjects studied and practised during B.Sc. Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing or GNM education.

Editorial clarification: The subject list below is preparation guidance from Kanika’s Nursing Academy. It is not a separate official topic-wise syllabus released by PGIMER.

Recommended Nursing Subjects to Revise

  • Nursing Foundations
  • Medical-Surgical Nursing
  • Community Health Nursing
  • Child Health Nursing
  • Mental Health Nursing
  • Midwifery and Obstetrical Nursing
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Microbiology
  • Pharmacology
  • Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Nursing Research and Statistics
  • Nursing Administration and Management
  • First Aid and Emergency Nursing
  • Infection Prevention and Control
  • Basic critical-care concepts
  • Patient safety and nursing ethics

Give special attention to clinical situations, nursing priorities, patient safety, infection control and commonly used procedures. Questions in a professional nursing examination may test application of knowledge rather than memory alone.

A Practical Preparation Plan

  1. Identify weak subjects: Begin with the nursing areas where you regularly lose marks.
  2. Revise one concept at a time: Use short notes for high-yield facts, procedures, precautions and drug-related points.
  3. Practise with a timer: Work towards answering most questions within 45 to 60 seconds.
  4. Control guesswork: A wrong answer carries a 0.25-mark deduction.
  5. Review every mock test: Separate mistakes into misunderstood concepts, forgotten facts and questions read incorrectly.

For exam-style practice, use the academy’s nursing practice tests. Candidates who need a structured revision schedule can review the PGIMER Chandigarh Nursing Officer Crash Course 2026.

  • Entering a name or date of birth that differs from the matriculation certificate;
  • Using an invalid or outdated category certificate;
  • Leaving required fields blank;
  • Uploading blurred documents;
  • Submitting duplicate applications;
  • Waiting until the last date; and
  • Assuming that passing the CBT automatically confirms selection.

PGIMER Nursing Officer Tie-Breaking Rules

If two or more candidates receive equal aggregate marks, the tie will be resolved in this order:

  1. The candidate with fewer wrong answers or lower negative marks is placed higher.
  2. If the tie remains, the candidate born earlier is placed higher.
  3. If it remains unresolved, the candidate with the higher Class 12 aggregate percentage is placed higher.
  4. Finally, the candidate with the higher Class 10 percentage is placed higher.

Accuracy matters twice: incorrect answers reduce the score and may also affect ranking when marks are tied.
